**
THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE “A quirky yet heartwarming show”, the first adult musical of the 2010 “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” hilariously chronicles the angst and joy of six adolescent outcasts, their mentors who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, and special audience guest spellers, during the spelling championship of a lifetime. Letter by letter, the roster of participants in the zany Tony-award winning musical soon finds that winning isn’t everything… and losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser! Auditions dates are Jan. 6 & 7 at 7pm, with parts available for men and women ages 17 & up. Shows will be Feb. 19-Mar. 7, with evening and matinee shows available. Tickets on sale Feb. 1.

STARMITES “Starmites”, the first TYP musical of the year, is a musical spoof that will bring smiles to the most ardent star warrior or “trekkie”. “Starmites”, a Tony nominated best musical, is about Eleanor, a girl who dreams her way into a comic book adventure in Innerspace to save the galaxy. It is her, Spacepunk, the Starmites and the lizard man against the evil Banshees led by Diva and Shak Graa (Weird girls with dangerous hair!). It’s a space-age Peter Pan with a fun pop rock score…the most intentionally amusing of intergalactic epics Auditions will be Jan. 17 from 2-5pm, and are open to anyone age 10-13, with parts available for boys and girls. Shows will be April 9-18, with evening & matinee shows available. Tickets on sale Mar. 22.

Let’s Play Ball! The Capital Miracle League Parks and Recreation of Topeka and area broadcasting stations are teaming up to build the first accessible baseball diamond in Kansas!
Cumulus Broadcasting approached us with a great idea to build an accessible baseball diamond in Topeka. So we are converting Gage Park Diamond #6 into a one-of-a kind, custom-designed baseball complex. Schwerdtz Design Group, Inc. has developed a design that will incorporate a cushioned synthetic turf that accommodates wheelchairs and other walking assistive devices while helping to prevent injuries. In other words, it will provide a level playing field where adults and youth with disabilities can hit, run, and catch - just like the best of them!
But we need your help! During 2006, our capital campaign has set a goal to raise $1 million from area citizens and businesses. All donations are tax deductible and will be deposited into the Parks and Recreation Foundation’s Capital Miracle League account, a 501(c)3 fund. If interested in donating money or in-kind services, please contact Jabeth M. Coachman.
Currently, we are able to accept CHECK donations only. Make checks payable to: Parks and Recreation Foundation with Capital Miracle League in the memo line. Mail your contribution to:
